The fine print
- What this compares. Your current average power bill of $234 a month against your solar payment of $155.00 a month, over 25 years. Utility escalated at 7.5% per year, solar at 2.99% per year.
- Still connected to the grid. You are still connected to the utility grid and would be expected to pay a small fixed monthly rate, considered the standard connection fee.
- Metropolitan Edison rates are moving. Met-Ed's residential price to compare went from 11.903 cents per kWh to 12.965 cents in December 2025, just under 9 percent, then rose again on June 1, 2026 to 13.95 cents. FirstEnergy's Pennsylvania utilities put that June step at 6.9 to 11.9 percent, roughly $12 a month for a typical residential customer, driven largely by regional capacity costs and grid investment. Past increases do not guarantee future ones.
